A: Weekly Watched Feature #3

How Do I select Who to feature?
If I watch you, just post art. I watch about a thousand people but if I like something I'm going to put it here. If you watch me, comment on my work. Any favorites or comments put you in the running for a feature.

Information of the Feature:
I will feature people I watch regardless of if they watch me, every week. I will also feature at least three random people who comment on my work, every week. This includes journals, poetry, etc. Each Feature will be uploaded Tuesday morning. The feature will be in the same format as what follows.

This is a Traditional artist of whom I have watched for sometime. And while in the work of abstracts it can be difficult to generate something truly unique across several pieces artworks; she seems to do so with some regularity. Much of her work is very organic leaving us with

:iconmadz4ever:

I am a big fan of diversity. I think we need more artists with divserity. I do not like going into someone gallery and seeing 120 pictures of the exact same thing. I don't even like seeing 20 of the same thing unless there is the notion of growth. Madz4ever has a bit of repition but she also has some strong diversity.

May The Blood Rise by Madz4ever
This is a bit morbid. It looks like a fountain covered in blood. I think it's a fountain for vampires. I would have liked to have seen this froma few other vantage points but I know, sometimes, when you're in public it can be a pain to find an angle that doesn't include nonsense in the background, but even then grab some fabric and just put it in the background and touch it up digitally.

Flower28 by Madz4ever
Some naturey stuff with dew, that is always good in photography. I am not sure if she is using a macro lens, but the effort can be as important as the execution. However, this is a strong contrast to the bloody fountain.

Self Portrait1 by Madz4ever
Another way to achieve diversity is to jump into a different media. I would really like to see this person work more with paints, or at the very lease upload more paints.

Very Fun1 by Madz4ever
I… uh… I don't know what this is. Its abstract though. I like abstract.

:iconcron31:

This person has red hair. If you don't go look at their profile then you are a terrible person.

Summer Daze by Cron31
Red hair! I told you. I think something is a little off on a the saturation or the contrast needs to come down a bit because there are odd red shadows on her arm and the hair seems to bleed a little. That doesn't change the face that she is laying on the ground all peaceful. The hair looks nice against the green grass.

Day 6 by Cron31
The photo is a little bit weak in quality or execution but I think that the concept overrides that. She literally walks with positive thoughts.

Pin-up Pen Drawing by Cron31
Cute line drawing with selective coloring – I would like to see her getting back here.

Impossible LoveIrresistible.
Thief of thought,
Of words.
Why must you whisk them from my grasp?
With the flick of your wrist,
The glint of mischievous eyes,
My heart is gone.
My balance crumbling.
I would fall to my knees
For a touch.
Is there only so much heat
I can take,
Your hand?
Pearls stir and glisten,
Ribbons that sting your skin,
Goddess of the sea.
The sweet entrapment of the embrace
I can't reach.
Your lips tell so many stories
With just one kiss,
I will listen.
Just let me
Show you.
I will
Press
Plea
And
Pry
Until
My body is numb enough for your harvest tears.

It is hard for me to feature literature without writing a book but she makes me think and she makes me feel.

:iconnimportant:

This artist does a great job putting images together. She works traditionally with painting and digitally with painting. I am showing two images. The first is digital and has a great bit of contrast and a sense of danger. The second is a brutal looking painting.

:icondelusional-dreams:

This artist is another one with has a very diverse style. She can make fun and cute drawings, beautiful photographs, photographs that make us think. She has a video on youtube that shows off her writing ability as well. By all accounts the artist is British, intelligent, humorous, creative, and beautiful – everything you want in someone to watch. She does suffer from bouts of inactivity – but she is in college so we can forgive her for that. ^_^ I think she needs to revisit some old photographs she has done – but I've discussed that with her. She has a supremely powerful and loaded gallery: great work after great work. I really suggest just checking it out. Even some of her cuter works have a darker twist.

Capture by delusional-dreams
This image has a powerful scope. I don't think we'd be able to appreciate it without the inclusion of the figure. The water and rocks are beautiful. The clouds are wonderfully right behind the figure – more a notion of timing and luck but still worth mentioning.

Preservation by delusional-dreams
This is really bizarre – it gives us a great composition. In my opinion it lacks color contrast but the light-bulb as a balloon is really, really cool. However, what makes this twisted is the previous failures we see on the ground. And what happens when this light goes out? Is she doomed to darkness?

And why doesn't she have a face? Ultimately what sets 'good' art from 'bad' art are these types of questions. If an image or poem causes you to think then it has done a good job.

The Fine Line by delusional-dreams

:iconmetal-bender:

This person has a great complex gallery of over 2,000 deviations. Great contrasts on everything she does. Check out the gallery, you won't be disappointed.

:thumb401412891:
The contrast from this comes from the infrared. It has an interesting eerie perspective. Check it out.

:thumb400607494:
This is crazy interesting. Great sense of contrast and an odd feeling grain. It seems like a statue wrapped in vines.

Great quality on the first two and the third just feels wonderfully unique.

:iconccconvoitise:

This artist has a lot of black and white photos. Some are of higher quality, some are lower. Film can be a little hit and miss. However, I believe this artist has a great sense of contrast and tone. The middle tones can be the most powerful

summer is gone by ccconvoitise
this has a nice sense of relaxation I primarily chose this thumb as a contrast to the next two. I wanted to show the depth and quality of the artists conceptualization and range.

describe yourself by ccconvoitise
This image is a beautiful sense of vulnerability. There is something really edgy about it. It actually snaps you up and grabs you. It makes you wonder whats wrong, what she is hiding. The image is a little industrial because of that blank wall outside.

save me by ccconvoitise
Beautiful diptych of a beautiful girl that mimics the thoughts that I feel about the above image. Its special that it gives us the same feelings when the image has much different content. The girl is nude in the previous thumb but clothed in this thumb. Inside in the previous, outside in these.

:iconlashellevalentine:

The work in this gallery is playful, abstract. I couldn't manage to capture every style even if I did ten thumbs.

Where There is Life by LashelleValentine
Naked dude in a forest. Hes looking away from the camera, which gives us a good sense of why. Healthy composition filled with the rule of thirds. Wonderful comparison of this natural dude next to a tiny tree.

My Playhouse by LashelleValentine
Nice bit of movement blur of the face gives that initial WTF. The bubbles are a great touch. Everything about this is really edgy.

This is a pretty model. The quality isn't all that great but some of her expressions make me happy.

B: Weekly 700 Point Contest

There are TWO ways to win this week.

#1: Repost my journal in your journal and tell me you did! That is it! Keep my journal up for a week

or

#2 If you don't want to shamelessly advertise for me, to win this weeks contest you need to find three total images. I want you to find a traditional or digital piece (Painting, drawing, digital mix, sculpture, etc) Anyone who responds will be put into a randomized pool for 700 points. These points will be given to the winner. There may be more than one winner to this contest! This depends on how many people enter :)

Why 700 points? 700 is enough for a 3 month membership if you want to give yourself one. I felt it odd to give away 636 or whatever is required, so I rounded up. 700 points will remain the same every week but the contest will change every week.

:iconchandrawilliams: won the second contest but I also gave :Iconmavelle-ealenyrmavelle-ealenyr.deviantart.com… 350 points just for entering.

:iconequielle: won the first contest.

  C: Monthly 2000 Point Giveaway

This is actually two 1000 point giveaways.

    1.       Every comment that I receive from now until October Eighth, 2013 will enter you into the contest. This will be on anything that is mine. Journals, poetry, photos, folders, etc.  Doesn't matter.  If you're bad at English, it doesn't matter. The fact that you're trying to communicate is more important than saying it 100% correctly! The two winners will receive features and 1000 points each.

D:  News and My Challenge to You!

I commissioned :iconanyazalia: to create some cover images for my finished poetry. Currently she has completed two...

  Suicide Guide
Truly wide-eyed (and stupefied) after sparks died...
Why? This desolate funeral… nobody cried.
Do explosive emotions hide, entombed inside?
Oversupplied assumptions were drowned by the tide…
Sorrowful expressions and anguish should collide!
Drab despair, exposed, implied. Idiots confide:
No actor tried hollow sympathies to deride.
DAMNIT! At. Least. Weep!
After this suicide...
Melancholic measurement missing, never spied,
When expectations subside, when cruel classmates chide-
Behind uncounted backs… crowded insults reside.
These actions unbelievable, regrets decide:
let the knife slide. Quickly leave a world, toaster-fried,
For shocking attention, but here is the divide,
Between reality and the dreams of what would happen
after my suicide...
I was justly denied.
  Gripping The Rose
Sitting in a field: Peer Pressure.
Splitting skin to yield: Fear Pleasure.
New grass swords slice/bite toes/knees.
“You, pass me the white rose. Please?”
Slip into my hand with ease.
“Grip sin, so we stand sharp bees.
Sip gin to free bland. The sleaze.”
Snippin’ two stalks, while the breeze
of blood ends talks of fake squeeze.

“One,” we say, “the bust of veins.
None betray the trust of pains.”
Skin displays red rusted chains.
“Dawn the day,” spread misted stains,
‘cross the sky bled twisted lanes.
Gloss the eye, rush ruptured mains,
sewage pipes spray, spirit wanes.
New age wipes away old scars.
Rib cage rests today, cold bars,
this sage guessed the way, so far.
Engage, lest we stray bizarre,
explore flame, poetic star...
Adore these pasts, scrawled and marred:
Memories, enthralled, stand guard.
Contrast truth. Myth flows. Lies accrue.
I pass: new red rose... on to You.

My Challenge For You
I challenge you to actually look at other people's features. Comment on them. Open up artworks and comment on those artworks. I would say 90% of your efforts will not be returned inkind but that is how you'll grow community.

Thank you very much for the points you have given me in the second contest, and so sorry for the late reply. Was busy the last week finishing up my thesis. This was a nice surprise!
